Drive Systems for Recumbent Bikes and Trikes
Electric Mid-Drive™
Our original mid-drive for recumbent bikes and trike. Up to 1000 Watts, and beyond, low noise, high torque motor with EcoSpeed's Velociraptor™ Intelligent Motor Controller. Mid-drive design allows for the most efficient possible pedal-only operation combined with the most speed and hill climbing ability for a given motor size. The Electric Mid-Drive uses a set of parts that we call a Frame Adapter to adapt the unit to a particular bike or trike. If you don't see a frame adapter for your ride below, get in touch with us as we can often come up with one from our extensive parts bin. Failing that, we are also set up to do custom systems and can fit almost anything that way.
Electric Mountain-Drive™, Type 2
The Type 2 Electric Mountain Drive works the same as the one we make for upright bicycles but is reconfigured for use on recumbent tadpole trikes. The EMtnD Type 2 will fit most Tadpole trikes and mounts forward on the boom for easy installation without having to alter the trike's chain line.
Velomobiles
Many velomobiles can use the EMtnD Type 2 kit. For those that can't, in our custom department we have a special variant of the Electric Mountain Drive we call the Type 4 made just for velomobiles. Contact us for further details.
EMD for recumbent bikes and trikes, large motor, 48V Lithium Tri-metal Battery
Ecospeed's original mid-drive systems that fit many recumbent bikes and trikes. Customized to each bike or trike with a set of parts we call a frame adapter for a perfect fit. For a list of bikes the EMD will fit look here. With our large 1000W motor, Velociraptor controller, and a 48 volt high current battery pack, the EMD reaches a whole new level of performance beyond anything we've done before. New for 2012 US made 13Ah lithium tri-metal battery gives a useful range 35 to 45 miles and features a two year factory warranty.

Velociraptor motor controller that comes with our systems can work with almost any battery system from 18 to 60 volts. You
can buy a few small lead acid batteries from your local battery store, wire them up in series, and you'll be up and running
with less than $200 in batteries. Or, choose one of the many lithium batteries available online. We'll be happy to give you advice
on choosing batteries.

EMtnD2 for recumbent bikes and trikes, large motor, triple chainring, 48V Lithium Tri-metal Battery
A variant of our Electric Mountain Drive™ designed to fit many recumbent tadpole style trikes and some short wheelbase recumbent bikes. Same mounting system as our Electric Mountain Drive for upright bikes except that the motor is placed down and to the rear of your bottom bracket instead of down and to the front. The motor drives a special freewheeling crankset that we supply allowing it to power your trikes drivetrain without spinning the pedals. With a triple chainring, stunning performance results from a 1000 Watt motor driving through the full range of gear ratios.
Includes our 48 volt lithium tri-metal battery described above.
