Batteries are the key component of any electric vehicle or bicycle. Battery purchase and replacement constitutes almost 100% of your operating cost. The cost of electricity to charge them is insignificant in comparison. So, choosing the right battery is the most important decision you will make.
At EcoSpeed we try to take an agnostic attitude towards batteries. Many e-bike, scooter, and electric vehicle manufacturers try to lock you in to their battery solution. That means when it comes time to replace your battery pack, you have no choice but to pay them whatever they're asking for whatever they have. We don't do that. Battery technology is advancing rapidly today, so we want to make sure our customers can always take advantage of the latest technology. Or, take advantage of the lowest cost one. The important thing is that you get to choose.
Below are the battery options we offer. If you want to choose a battery from somewhere else, or even put together your own, we will support you in doing that.
There are now a number of good sources for high quality lithium batteries. In the past we haven't recommended batteries from other sources because we couldn't guarantee that they would work with our system. With our new EcoSpeed designed digital motor controller that can adapt its operation for different battery systems, that is no longer true.
So, feel free to buy a battery from us or shop around for a good deal elsewhere. If you choose to buy a battery from someone else, we can wire it for you to work with our system, or even put it a case.
These include everything you need to power up your Electric Mid-Drive unit: battery, battery case, fuse, power switch, mount to attach the battery to your bike, and all wiring. With one of these battery systems, an EMtnD or EMD, and the proper clamps or frame adapter for your bike, you have a complete system.
Lithium Iron Phosphate, 10Ah, 38V, BMS Equipped
Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePO4) is the newest member of the lithium battery family. It features an extremely long life span -- 4 to 10 years in normal use and can be rapid charged in an hour or less. Lithium iron phosphate batteries have an extremely flat discharge voltage curve, so they can supply full power right up to the end. Also, they are much more tolerant of deep cycling than other lithium chemistries so a LiFePO4 battery can often take the place of a larger lithium ion polymer or other lithium battery. LiFePO4 batteries are also safer than other lithium chemistries since they are not subject to thermal runaway (i. e. catching fire) when abused. These are high capacity LiFePO4 batteries that pack more energy into a given weight than most. As such, they should be limited to a maximum discharge current of 2C (2 x Capacity or 20 Amps for the 10Ah size). Also, rapid charging should be limited to 1C, or 10A. Useable energy is about 375 Wh. Our new second generation Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePO4) in a mid-range 15Ah size. Useable energy is about 575 Wh. This new battery features a replaceable cell balancing BMS and exceptionally light weight, 4 lbs less than our previous 15Ah. Battery Adapter Kit
If you want to use a battery from somwhere else, you'll need a power switch with the proper connector for our motors. The supplies that. This kit also includes a 50 Amp power fuse and a pair of bare wires that you hook to your battery system.

Connector Pigtail Kit
If your battery already has a power switch and fuse (or BMS), all you need is the proper connector to mate with our controller. This kit includes a MiniFit Sr connector and wire pigtail. The pigtail is terminated with automotive style quick connects and a pair of quick connects are included that you can crimp onto the wires from your battery. As an alternative, for a more secure connection, you can clip off the quick connects and solder the pigtail wires directly to the ends of your battery leads. Two lengths of heat shrink tubing are included to insulate the solder joints should you choose this option.

Send us your battery and we will put the proper connector on it along with a fuse and a main power switch box. We then test it for proper operation, and ship it back to you.

Install Battery in Topeak Case
Send us your battery and we will install it in a Topeak MTX pannier top bag. The installation includes a main power switch, fuse (if needed), and a false bottom that allows the case to be used for carrying items on top of the battery. After installation we test it for proper operation, and ship it back to you. The battery must fit inside the case, approximately 11" x 6.5" x 5".

A charger is included with each battery we sell. Our other recommended battery sources sell chargers with their batteries as well. If you would like an additional charger or a fast charger, contact us for recommendations. There are now many sources of good quality lithium iron phosphate battery chargers at reasonable prices. We will be happy to help you choose a charger that fits your needs and resolve any issues with finding the proper connector.
